The Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) initiated attachment proceedings against significant house tax defaulters, targeting a hotel in the Lahurabir locality. However, the defaulter promptly settled the dues amounting to Rs 6.25 lakh as soon as the attachment proceedings began. Another defaulter also paid Rs 4 lakh shortly after the initiation of attachment proceedings, following notices served by the municipal commissioner, Akshat Verma. The notice clearly directed defaulters to clear their dues or face attachment. The list of defaulters was published in newspapers to increase awareness and ensure compliance.
Responding to the directive, the municipal commissioner, along with other officials, conducted inspections of sanitation and cleanliness in various localities, including the circuit house, police line crossing, Maqbool Alam Road, Chowkaghat, Sampurnanand Sanskrit University main road, Lahuravir crossing, Piplani Katra, Kabirchaura, Maidagin, Town Hall and shelter home, Visheshwarganj Galla Mandi, and the streets of Kal Bhairav Ward.
During these inspections, officials also evaluated the condition of a community toilet near Visheshwarganj Galla Mandi. The examination revealed that the electronic POS machine was non-functional, and the toilet was not being regularly cleaned. Consequently, the municipal commissioner imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the operator. The inspection involved the participation of Health Officer Dr NP Singh, regional sanitation inspectors, and representatives of AG Enviro Company.
