The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has made geo-tagging mandatory for property tax exemption. Property owners failing to complete this process by January 31 will lose the opportunity to avail a 10% rebate on lump sum advance tax payments in the next financial year, up to June 30. This directive is a significant move towards enhancing tax compliance and ensuring a streamlined system.
In instances where MCD officers have already geo-tagged a property, property owners need not repeat the process. For those not registered with the MCD property tax portal, the civic body urges immediate registration, UPIC generation, and geo-tagging of their properties.
Failure to register properties by the January 31 deadline would prompt the MCD to initiate tax recovery proceedings and potentially prosecute defaulters. This underscores the seriousness with which the MCD views compliance with the new geo-tagging mandate. To facilitate this mandatory geo-tagging requirement, the MCD has launched a dedicated mobile app named the Unified Mobile App (UMA). Property owners can conveniently download this app from the Play Store or access it via its official website.
To initiate the geo-tagging process using the UMA app, property owners should first select the citizen option and provide their login details. Subsequently, they can choose the UPIC for geo-tagging, utilizing their registered mobile number. Further steps include selecting the Property UPIC, accessing the Action button, and clicking 'Geo-tagging' to prompt the map location to appear.
Geo-tagging offers a location-specific identification of individual properties, thereby improving service delivery to citizens. By utilizing this technology, the MCD aims to create a more efficient and responsive system, aligning with the broader objective of providing enhanced municipal services.
The process of geo-tagging involves assigning a unique Latitude-Longitude position to a property on a GIS map. This is accomplished by selecting the current location against any UPIC, ensuring that each property has its location identified against a unique Latitude-Longitude coordinate.
For property owners without a UPIC number, the first step involves generating a UPIC before proceeding with the geo-tagging process. This ensures that each property is uniquely identified in the system, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the geo-tagging initiative.
Simultaneously, property owners have the option to geo-tag their properties using the capture geo coordinates button, allowing them to add property photographs. The app facilitates the addition of captions against photographs. After this, property owners can submit geotags and photos, affirming their completion by clicking the 'yes' button.
The comprehensive approach by the MCD, combining the mandatory geo-tagging requirement with clear instructions and user-friendly tools like the UMA app, demonstrates a commitment to leveraging technology for effective governance. As the January 31 deadline approaches, property owners in Delhi are urged to promptly comply with these measures to secure property tax exemption benefits and avoid potential consequences outlined by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
