The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) is gearing up for its third online examination for real estate agents on November 22. A total of 5,592 qualified candidates are set to participate at 19 centres across the state. The first online exam in May witnessed 405 out of 423 candidates passing, and participation increased in the second exam, with 2,812 out of 3,010 candidates successfully clearing. Now For the third online exam Mumbai takes the lead in participant numbers with 2,732 candidates, followed by Pune with 2,104. Other cities like Nagpur, Nashik, Kolhapur, and Aurangabad also join the fray, showcasing the widespread interest in the certification process. Smaller numbers from locations such as Akola, Amravati, Chandrapur, Dhule, Jalgaon, Latur, Nanded, Pandharpur, Wardha, Ahmednagar, Sangli, Satara, and Solapur contribute to the diverse pool of candidates. Highlighting the significance of this certification, MahaRERA officials note that the first two exams saw 3,217 candidates successfully passing. However, with a portal listing 45,000 real estate agents, it's worth noting that 13,000 agents haven't renewed their registration, leaving 32,000 presently active agents in the industry. A circular issued on January 10 this year underscores the importance of registered real estate agents obtaining a Certificate of Competency. Acting as the vital link between home buyers and promoters, these agents need a comprehensive understanding of real estate transactions. This ensures that they can guide buyers through each stage of the purchase process, ultimately minimising the risk of misunderstandings and disputes. Recognising the need for formal training and certification courses, MahaRERA has developed a curriculum and modules. Partnering with four training institutions, the authority mandates a minimum of 20 hours of training on RERA's legal framework, followed by online exams. In a recent development, MahaRERA has extended the deadline for agents to obtain certifications from September 2023 to January 1, 2024. Additionally, promoters are directed to ensure that real estate agents enlisted for marketing projects under Section 4 (2) (j) of RERA possess a valid Certificate of Competency starting from January 1, 2024. These initiatives by MahaRERA aim to foster a more informed and professional real estate industry, benefiting both agents and home buyers alike.
