A total of 370 construction projects in the state of Maharashtra have been served with show-cause notices and fined a cumulative sum of Rs 33 lakh for their failure to display MahaRERA (Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority) registration numbers and QR codes. This development comes as part of a stringent regulatory measure aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the real estate sector in Maharashtra.
Breaking down the numbers, it was revealed that 173 of these non-compliant projects are located in the Mumbai region, followed by 162 in Pune, and 35 in Nagpur. The sheer volume of these violations highlights the widespread nature of this issue and the need for a strong regulatory mechanism to hold developers accountable.
The process leading to these penalties involved the issuance of show-cause notices to the developers followed by hearings conducted by MahaRERA officials. Subsequently, penalties ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 were imposed on the errant developers. So far, MahaRERA has successfully recovered Rs 22 lakh from these penalties, reinforcing the commitment to enforcing compliance in the real estate sector.
