The Leela Palace Hotels embrace Beyond Green's sustainable vision

Lindsey Ueberroth, the CEO of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, announced that The Leela Palace Bengaluru and The Leela Palace Udaipur have joined the 'Beyond Green' portfolio, reflecting the growing interest from non-Preferred hotels to be part of this sustainable initiative. Beyond Green, launched amid the global health crisis, is a global hotel portfolio by Preferred Hotels & Resorts that highlights premium hotels aligned with Sustainable Development Goals focusing on three aspects - nature, culture, and community.
Currently, there are 38 member hotels in the Beyond Green portfolio, and Ueberroth expects this number to reach 42 by year-end. She emphasized that Beyond Green is envisioned as a standalone brand, and roughly 50% of its current members are not part of Preferred Hotels.
Beyond Green is designed to celebrate hotels that adhere to the highest sustainability standards, with a focus on nature, culture, and community. It is not a certification but a membership based on rigorous brand standards. In a world where greenwashing is increasingly prevalent, Beyond Green aims to set standards that go beyond the typical 'reduce-reuse-recycle' practices.
The initiative includes a variety of properties, from city hotels to resorts, palaces, and tented accommodations. These properties typically fall within the upper upscale and luxury categories. Ueberroth also sees India as a promising market for Beyond Green, and the initiative has already enlisted four Indian properties. Alongside The Leela Palace Bengaluru and The Leela Palace Udaipur, The Suryagarh Jaisalmer and Hidden India Mahavan in Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh, are part of the Beyond Green portfolio.
Anurag Bhatnagar, the CEO of The Leela Palaces Hotels & Resorts, emphasized that their company's core values are rooted in the Indian tradition of 'Atithi Devo Bhava' (The guest is God). They have always aimed to incorporate global best practices in sustainability and responsible tourism. Beyond Green represents their commitment to mindful and responsible luxury, and they plan to have more of their hotels join this membership in the near future.
The addition of The Leela Palace Bengaluru and The Leela Palace Udaipur to the Beyond Green portfolio reflects a growing interest in sustainable initiatives. With 38 member hotels currently and more expected, Beyond Green aims to redefine responsible luxury and provide a commitment to mindful and responsible tourism in the country.
