The Maharashtra state cabinet has greenlit various significant initiatives in a recent meeting. First and foremost, they have allocated Rs. 25 crore for a cluster redevelopment project aimed at providing affordable housing in three areas of Thane. The funding comes from the Mahatma Phule Backward Class Development Corporation through the social justice department. The redevelopment will be executed by a subsidiary of the corporation and will target areas like Kisan Nagar, Tekdi Bangla, and Hazoori, known for housing low-income households.
The cluster redevelopment scheme will be facilitated through Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MahaPreit), a subsidiary of the Mahatma Phule SC Development Corporation. This initiative is a low-cost mass-housing project as part of the urban revitalization plan, focusing on hilly bungalow areas like Hazuri and Kisannagar in collaboration with the Thane Municipal Corporation.
Another important move is the decision to allow state government offices to carry out banking transactions through the Maharashtra State Cooperative (MSC) bank and State PSUs to invest in the bank. The cabinet also approved a 1320 MW power project based on supercritical technology in Koradi near Nagpur, replacing the old 1250 MW units that are being phased out. The state government will contribute Rs. 2,125 crore in capital over the next five years, with the remaining 80 percent to be raised by MahaGenco from banks and other institutions.
To support the textile sector, the cabinet has decided to continue with a scheme where the state government pays interest on loans taken by cooperative spinning mills. The scheme has been extended for five more years but specifically for new loans to cooperative mills.
In addition, amendments to the rules will facilitate the selection of beneficiaries for various welfare schemes, particularly focusing on building and other construction workers. Parity among schemes offered by institutions like Barti, Sarthi, MahaJyot, and Amrut will be ensured.
To enhance educational and administrative infrastructure, a new veterinary degree college will be established in Ahmednagar district. Four new posts of Charity Deputy Commissioners will be created in Nashik, Pune, Nagpur, and Nanded. These decisions reflect the government's commitment to various sectors and communities within the state.
