50 unauthorised colonies in Gurugram demolished in DTCP crackdown

In a significant crackdown on illegal constructions, the enforcement wing of the town and country planning department (DTCP) has successfully demolished approximately 50 illegal colonies spread over 550 acres of prime land in and around Gurugram within a span of three months.
These illegal colonies were established in the urban areas of Gurugram, Sohna, Pataudi, and Farrukhnagar. District Town Planner Binesh Kumar identified 14 illegal colonies in the Sohna and Bhondsi areas, developed on 41 acres of agricultural land, violating the Haryana Urban Development Act, 1975. Despite show-cause notices and restoration orders, construction continued, prompting 13 demolition drives and clearing around 150 acres of encroached land. The department had to resort to legal action, registering three FIRs against the offenders.
Similarly, DTP Sumit Malik identified 29 colonies spread across 105 acres of prime land in the Farukh Nagar-Pataudi area. Show-cause notices and restoration orders were issued to offenders in these colonies as well. A total of 25 demolition drives were carried out, resulting in the clearance of approximately 400 acres of land. Fifteen FIRs were filed against different landowners associated with these colonies.
Additionally, seven colonies faced demolition drives against illegal structures. Senior Town Planner Renuka Singh submitted an action-taken report to Director General TL Satyaprakash, emphasising the intensification of action against illegal colonies in Gurugram. To achieve this objective, additional District Town Planners, Binesh Kumar and Sumit Malik were appointed. Their responsibilities included taking strict action against illegal constructions and colonies in the Sohna-Bhondsi area and the Manesar, Pataudi, and Farrukhnagar areas, respectively.
The primary goal of these efforts is to enhance the efficiency of town planning in Gurugram and curb the proliferation of illegal colonies. The government has designated new sectors in Sohna, Bhondsi, Farrukhnagar, and adjoining areas under the Gurgaon Master Plan 2031. However, illegal colonies in these areas disrupt the development of these new sectors.
Violators exploit legal gaps and establish illegal colonies on valuable agricultural land, violating the Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act, 1975. Section 7A of the Act mandates that the registration of sale deeds for plots smaller than 1 acre is not allowed without a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the DTCP. Offenders breaching this law are punishable by imprisonment up to 3 years. Consequently, the department collaborates with law enforcement, urging them to halt the development of unauthorised colonies and illegal constructions undertaken by these offenders.
The concerted efforts of the enforcement wing demonstrate the government's commitment to curbing illegal constructions and ensuring planned, lawful urban development in Gurugram and its surrounding areas. This initiative aims to create a secure and regulated urban landscape, deterring individuals and entities from engaging in illegal activities within the real estate sector.
