Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is set to advance the final arbitration report for the Mhalunge Maan town planning scheme to the state for approval in November 2023. This significant development follows the finalization of 510 plots and 5,800 beneficiaries for the town planning (TP) scheme, where recipients will reclaim 50% of their land in the township.
The Mhalunge Maan scheme is part of a comprehensive urban development strategy. Initially proposed in 2018, the arbitration submission, slated for next month, marks the culmination of a nearly five-year process, as confirmed by PMRDA officials. In addition to Mhalunge Maan, there are five other TP schemes—Vadachiwadi, Autunde Handewadi, two at Holkarwadi, and Manjari Kolwadi. PMRDA Deputy Collector Ramdas Jagtap clarified that all the schemes are under the purview of the urban development department. Jagtap conveyed that the status of all six TP schemes, including Mhalunge Maan, has been presented to Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar.
Notably, the Centre has allocated Rs25 crore as an infrastructure fund for each of these TP schemes. The PMRDA has already earmarked Rs175 crore from its own budget for this initiative. The allocation of funds reflects a collaborative effort to advance urban development, recognizing the importance of strategic planning and infrastructure enhancement in these regions.
It's noteworthy that Mhalunge Maan TP scheme secured the distinction of being the first to be approved by the state government. However, revisions became necessary due to challenges related to flood line markings, underscoring the intricacies involved in executing such expansive projects.
As PMRDA navigates the final stages of arbitration and approval, the comprehensive nature of these town planning schemes is poised to reshape the urban landscape in and around Pune. The funding commitment from both the Centre and PMRDA emphasizes the significance of sustainable urban development and underscores the collaborative efforts to ensure the success of these transformative projects.
