Bollywood stars and global companies flock to UP film city project

The International Film City project in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, has garnered significant interest from filmmakers and companies following the third global tender floated by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on September 30. Actors Akshay Kumar and Kangana Ranaut, along with representatives from Boney Kapoor and Ajay Devgn's production houses, reportedly visited the project site in Sector 21. Filmmaker KC Bokadia and actor Rajpal Yadav are also in discussions with YEIDA. International firms such as Sony and Universal have expressed interest in developing the first phase of the project, covering 230 acres out of a total 1,000.
YEIDA's latest tender, specifically for the first phase, seeks investors and production houses for development, operation, and maintenance on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. While previous tenders covered the entire 1,000 acres, they failed to attract bidders. This time, the tender has been floated for the development of the first phase only, which will be spread over 230 acres, with the remaining to be developed in subsequent phases. It also incorporated other concessions such as extending the concession period from 60 to 90 years.
Out of the proposed land, 155 acres will be designated for industrial use, and the remaining 75 acres for commercial use. The estimated cost for developing 230 acres is Rs 1,500 crore. Filmmakers and firms are reportedly open to forming consortia to develop the first phase of the project.
The Indian representatives of global companies like Sony and Universal are expected to meet top YEIDA officials later this month. The last date for bid submissions is November 30, with a pre-bid meeting scheduled for October 26, and technical bids set to open on December 5.
The involvement of Bollywood actors and prominent production houses, coupled with interest from international firms, underscores the potential of the International Film City project. The initiative aligns with Uttar Pradesh's vision to boost the entertainment industry and position the state as a hub for film production.
In conclusion, the heightened interest from filmmakers, actors, and global companies in the UP Film City project indicates a positive response to YEIDA's modified approach. If successful, the International Film City could contribute significantly to the state's cultural and economic landscape, fostering growth in the entertainment sector.
