The redevelopment of three GPRA colonies in India, Sarojini Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri, have been delayed due to a lack of permission from the city government for tree transplantation and the presence of encroachments, according to Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore.
The redevelopment of three General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) colonies, namely Sarojini Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri, has been facing hurdles in recent times. As per a written reply by the Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore, to a question in the Lok Sabha, the main reason behind the stalled progress is the lack of permission from the city government for tree transplantation.
Kasturba Nagar, in particular, will be executed in two phases. The progress of the project for one of the packages has reached 8% as of the current date. However, the other package has not been initiated due to the absence of tree transplantation permission. Sarojini Nagar, on the other hand, is a project that comprises GPRA and commercial properties. The city forest department's no objection certificate for developing type IV quarters is still being awaited.
The Union Minister stated that the major cause of delay for all the packages is the lack of tree transplantation permission and the presence of encroachments. In the case of Sriniwaspuri, the project that consists of GPRA is also planned to be executed in two phases. The work for one of the packages has been awarded but is held up due to the absence of tree transplantation permission.
The redevelopment of the three GPRA colonies has been impacted by various challenges, primarily the absence of permission for tree transplantation and the presence of encroachments. The Union Minister has outlined the current status of each project and the challenges they are facing, providing a clearer understanding of the situation. While the progress of the projects has been slow, the government remains committed to ensuring that the redevelopment of these colonies takes place smoothly and successfully.
