In Sector Alpha 2 of Noida, residents have raised concerns about the state of unattended construction and demolition (C&D) waste in various areas, along with the improper handling of unsegregated waste. These issues have become more pronounced with the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
A meeting was convened by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority's (GNIDA) Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) on July 10, involving representatives from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) across Greater Noida. The discussion during this meeting included assessing the efficiency of the garbage collection services and the management of C&D waste.
Regarding C&D waste, it was decided that individual homeowners would be responsible for bringing such waste to designated collection points, rather than the Authority picking it up directly from their homes. However, more than two months have passed since this decision, and residents have reported a deteriorating situation in their sector, describing it as resembling a garbage dump.
The primary issue arises from the irregularity of door-to-door waste collection services, leading to garbage accumulating throughout the sector. Residents have expressed frustration with waste bags being left in various places, including on grilles, trees, and NPCL panels installed in the streets.
Furthermore, residents have highlighted that the segregation of dry and wet waste is not being properly enforced, despite awareness campaigns aimed at promoting responsible waste disposal and management. The deteriorating condition of Sector Alpha 2 has raised concerns about public health, as residents fear the spread of diseases such as dengue and malaria due to the unclean environment. Members of the RWA have urged local officials to conduct surprise inspections of the sector to assess the situation and take necessary action. In response, GNIDA officials have acknowledged the issue and promised to address it.
In conclusion, the residents of Sector Alpha 2 in Noida are grappling with mounting problems related to unattended C&D waste, inadequate waste collection services, and the lack of proper waste segregation. They have expressed concerns about the potential health hazards posed by the current state of their sector. It remains to be seen how swiftly and effectively the authorities will respond to alleviate these issues and restore a clean and hygienic environment for the residents.
