In the latest meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) under PM Gati Shakti, six infrastructure projects, collectively valued at about 52,000 crore, underwent assessment. This included four projects from the road transport sector and two from Railways, marking the 56th NPG meeting since the launch of PM Gati Shakti.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) presented four road projects, demonstrating adherence to Gati Shakti principles. The cumulative projects assessed by NPG now stand at 112, with a total value exceeding 11.53 lakh crore since the initiation of PM Gati Shakti.
One of the road projects proposed is a greenfield road in Gujarat and Maharashtra, aiming to benefit industrial belts in Navsari, Nashik, and Ahmednagar, along with enhancing connectivity in tribal districts. Emphasizing socio-economic development, the project is expected to connect aspirational districts like Osmanabad and contribute to the tourism sector.
The second greenfield road project, located in Gujarat, aims to integrate the Amritsar Jamnagar economic corridor with Ahmedabad and Vadodara, fostering multi-modality in the region. The third road project in Bihar involves the four-laning of the Patna-Arrah-Sasaram corridor under Bharatmala Pariyojna, targeting socio-economic development in Left-wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts.
Another road project in Uttar Pradesh aims to enhance interstate connectivity among Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Each road project underscores the commitment to Gati Shakti's principles, emphasizing economic development and improved connectivity.
The meeting also evaluated two railway projects with an estimated cost of about 16,700 crore. The first project, a greenfield railway line in Odisha, traverses Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khandhamal, Boudh, Sambalpur, and Angul districts. This railway line aims to connect the industrial and mineral clusters of western Odisha with the East Coast port, contributing to regional development.
The second railway project in Kerala involves the doubling of railway lines, enhancing the quality of rail movement in a stressed corridor of the Southern railway and reducing travel time. The proposals highlight the need for augmenting infrastructure to support economic and social development.
A key aspect observed in all projects considered during the meeting is the importance of embracing PM Gati Shakti guidelines. This emphasis facilitates seamless integration of diverse transportation modes and encourages multi-modal connectivity. The approach not only prioritizes economic development but also addresses social development needs.
The assessment of these projects showcases a continued commitment to infrastructure development in various regions, aligning with the overarching goals of PM Gati Shakti. Emphasis on greenfield projects, multi-modality, and adherence to socio-economic development principles remains at the forefront of these evaluations. As India pushes forward with its ambitious infrastructure agenda, these assessments under PM Gati Shakti contribute to a comprehensive and integrated approach to transportation and connectivity.
