Andhra Pradesh's 'Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu' Scheme: A path to inclusive housing

The Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation Limited is set to launch a housing initiative aimed at benefiting the economically disadvantaged sections of the state. Under the "Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu" Scheme, the State Government has already allocated 30.65 lakh housing plots, incorporating an energy-efficient approach. These plots span across 71,811 acres and represent an investment of Rs. 56,102 crores.
Women have been granted ownership titles for these plots. Among the beneficiaries, 54.35% are from the backward classes, 19.9% belong to the scheduled castes, 5.76% are scheduled tribes, and 19.98% represent other castes. Thus far, 21.75 lakh plots have been sanctioned, amounting to a cost of Rs. 64,337 crore.
In tandem with this effort, the Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDCO) is constructing 2.62 lakh houses for the urban poor across 163 locations in 88 cities. These houses are categorized based on size and financial considerations, with the government ensuring the provision of necessary infrastructure.
Additionally, each beneficiary will receive four LED bulbs, two LED tube lights, and two energy-efficient BLDC fans as part of the initiative. This is expected to save 734 units of energy per house annually, translating to approximately Rs. 352 crore in savings for the 15.6 lakh houses constructed in the first phase.
Special Chief Secretary for Housing, Ajay Jain, highlights the potential for improved quality of life through the adoption of energy-efficient infrastructure provided by the government, encouraging beneficiaries to make the most of these offerings.
The Navaratnalu scheme is fundamentally designed to uplift the lives of underprivileged individuals, aiming to make dignified living a reality for all while promoting equality. This involves providing decent housing and infrastructure to various sections of society. Energy-efficient services will ultimately benefit 20 lakh houses in the state, with the support of the Energy Efficient Services Limited, a public sector undertaking under the Union Ministry of Power.
The Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation Limited's ambitious "Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu" scheme represents a significant step forward in addressing housing inequality within the state. With its commitment to energy-efficient practices and a focus on economically disadvantaged sections of society, this initiative not only offers shelter but also aims to improve the overall quality of life for countless individuals. The scheme is a testament to the state's dedication to the welfare of its citizens and a shining example of progress and inclusivity in housing development.
