MMRDA greenlights contractors for key metro depot and track construction

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has officially designated a contractor for the establishment of the Mogharpada Depot in Thane, a pivotal component of the Mumbai Metro Routes 4 and 4A. These routes are instrumental in bridging two significant cities within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, enhancing connectivity and transportation efficiency.

The Mogharpada Depot, situated in Thane, is designed to cater to Metro Routes 4 and 4A, which will seamlessly link Wadala to Gaimukh. This route will feature key stops at prominent locations such as Ghatkopar, Mulund, Thane, and Kasarvadavali.

MMRDA's announcement indicates substantial headway in the Mumbai-Thane metro network's construction. The contract for the depot's construction has been awarded to M/s. SEW-VSE (JV), who emerged as the L1 bidder. They secured the project with a competitive bid of Rs. 9,05,00,00,000/-. Once completed, the depot will sprawl over an impressive 42.25 hectares in Mogharpada. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art amenities including stabling yards, an operational control hub, administrative offices, maintenance facilities, an auxiliary substation, staff accommodations, and other essential infrastructure. The depot's design incorporates 64 stabling lines, with a provision for 32 more in the future, 10 inspection bays, and 10 workshop lines.

In a parallel development, MMRDA has also sanctioned the tender for the installation of a ballastless track, which will connect the Mulund Fire Station to the Gaimukh Station and Depot. This significant project has been entrusted to M/s. Apurvakriti Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. Remarkably, the accepted tender amount of 121,55,91,349/- is 7.29% lower than the original tender value, signaling cost-effective project management.

In conclusion, The MMRDA's recent decisions mark a significant step forward in enhancing Mumbai's metro connectivity. With contractors in place and a clear vision, the Mumbai Metro Routes 4 and 4A are set to revolutionize transportation in the region, promising improved accessibility and convenience for the public.
