In a commendable effort, the TNU HDB demolished 7,582 dilapidated houses to make way for the construction of 9,522 new homes, amounting to Rs. 1627.97 crore. Presently, the TNU HDB has commenced work on 3,511 houses, with a budget of Rs. 606.01 crore, while actively progressing towards the construction of the remaining 6,011 houses, estimated at Rs. 1,021.87 crore, in Kayathope.
This ambitious endeavour also includes the construction of 324 houses in Kayathope, amounting to Rs. 61.20 crore, and 240 houses in M S Nagar, with a budget of Rs. 41.30 crore. The foundation stone laying ceremony witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests, including Ministers P K Sekar Babu and Ma Subramaniam, Mayor R Priya, as well as MPs Dayanidhi Maran and Tamizhachi Thangapandian.
Upon the project's completion in 18 months, residents who were displaced due to the demolition of their old, dilapidated houses will receive new homes. Additionally, these housing units will provide shelter to economically disadvantaged individuals who were previously deprived of proper housing. The TNU HDB is committed to offering affordable housing solutions to the people, exemplifying its dedication to the welfare of the community.
The Kotturpuram project, once home to 1,000 families, involved providing them with a one-time sum of Rs. 24,000 per family and a shifting allowance for their relocation. Overcoming the challenges and obstacles in the path of constructing these 1,800 houses is a responsibility shouldered by the TNU HDB. Consequently, the project is being expedited to ensure swift delivery of these homes to their rightful owners and to offer much-needed shelter to those who are less fortunate.
Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin's gesture of laying the foundation stone for this housing project reflects his compassion for the homeless and his dedication to the welfare of the state and the country. The project is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed and handed over to the beneficiaries in the near future, symbolizing a significant step toward addressing housing needs in the region.
