Mumbai Fire Brigade's rapid response tackles basement fire at Worli's Benreez Apartment

A level-2 fire incident stirred panic in the upscale Worli locality of Mumbai, specifically at Benreez Apartment, situated along RG Thadani Marg, at Worli Seaface. Fortunately, this incident did not result in any casualties, but the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported the successful evacuation of six individuals from the basement area where the fire originated. The fire was first reported at approximately 10:39 pm and was categorized as Level 2 around 10:46 pm.

Santosh Dhonde, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, reassured the public by describing it as a minor fire limited to the building's basement. First responders promptly and safely evacuated a small number of residents from the premises.

Responding to the fire, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) swiftly mobilized seven fire engines and eight jumbo tankers to combat the blaze. Among the evacuated individuals, there were five men and one woman. Fire officials stated that the fire was confined to an area of approximately 4,000 square feet within the basement of a ground plus two-story structure. The presence of plastic items in the basement reportedly contributed to the intensification of the flames.

Ravindra Ambulgekar, the Chief Fire Officer, emphasized that it was indeed a minor blaze. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire. Firefighting efforts persisted for about two hours, eventually leading to the extinguishing of the fire around 1 am.
