In a stern warning issued last week, the Speaker of the Haryana Assembly, Gian Chand Gupta, cautioned Panchkula's administration and police department officials about the consequences they would face if illegal encroachments continued to mar the city's landscape.
Chairing a crucial meeting with Panchkula administration officials at his office within the Haryana Assembly, Speaker Gupta emphasized the urgency of the situation. He believes that unless swift and decisive action is taken against police and other relevant officers, the problem of illegal encroachments will persist and worsen.
Following the meeting, Panchkula's Deputy Commissioner, Sushil Sarwan, pledged to launch a special anti-encroachment drive that would yield visible improvements within the city in just one month. The meeting also witnessed the presence of City Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sachin Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Security, Law, and Order) Nikita Khattar, and HUDA Estate Officer Manav Malik.
Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, in addition to his warning, established an administrative committee under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner to rid the city of encroachments. This committee includes the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner of Police, and HUDA Estate Officer.
Gupta underscored the importance of safeguarding the interests of small-scale workers, particularly street vendors, who rely on their businesses for livelihoods. He mentioned that vending zones had been designated in nearly every sector of the city, with approximately 700 vacant sites available for retailers. Gupta stressed the need for special drives to eliminate encroachments from specific areas, including Sector-7, Sector-9, Sector-11, Sector-15, and Sector-20.
Furthermore, Speaker Gupta voiced his determination to prevent Panchkula from devolving into a city of slums. He issued stringent directives to DCP Nikita Khattar to eradicate illegal slums from the city, reaffirming the administration's commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly urban environment.
As Panchkula prepares to embark on an aggressive anti-encroachment campaign, the city's residents eagerly await the promised transformation, hoping for a cleaner and more organized urban landscape in the near future.
