DP World, a global leader in smart logistics solutions, has made a significant leap in its Indian operations with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art warehouse spanning a massive 380,000 square feet in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. The facility, which went operational on September 1, 2023, is fully compliant for storing and handling both chemicals and non-chemicals, boosting DP World's total warehousing capacity in India to over 5 million square feet.
This expansive warehouse is intelligently partitioned into two sections, with the first covering 190,000 square feet specially designed to accommodate hazardous chemicals. Equipped with heavy-duty G+8 level racking and Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA), this section boasts a capacity of 20,000 pallet positions for the normal temperature zone and an additional 1,000 pallet positions for the 20 to 25-degree temperature-controlled area, with provisions for expansion based on demand.
The second section spans 150,000 square feet and is dedicated exclusively to non-chemical storage. Additionally, the facility incorporates a separate 40,000 square-foot area housing two cold storage rooms.
Safety takes precedence throughout the facility. A dedicated Chill temperature-controlled area is maintained at 20° to 25°C for pharmaceuticals and food reagents. Fireproof partitions, a dedicated firewater system, a spill containment pit, and Rockwool insulation on the roof ensure top-notch safety standards. High-Volume Low-Speed Fans (HVLS) enhance air quality and employee well-being. As part of their sustainability efforts, the facility is equipped with a solar system to reduce its environmental impact.
Efficiency is another key focus, with a two-sided Docking system optimizing picking paths and a Safety Lifeline system ensuring driver safety during tarpaulin removal from trucks. An extended canopy area spanning over 5 meters facilitates seamless loading and unloading of vehicles year-round.
The new warehouse is poised to fortify Bhiwandi's status as one of Asia's largest warehousing hubs, offering critical cold store solutions to the region. It is expected to greatly benefit the agriculture, pharmaceuticals, electric vehicle, and chemical trading sectors in and around the area.
