GLADA launches crackdown on illegal colonies in Ludhiana

The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) is taking strong action against people who are creating illegal colonies in the region. GLADA officials executed a crackdown on five such unauthorized settlements, taking strict actions against them by dismantling the illicit infrastructure.

These unauthorized colonies, which were subjected to the demolition drive included two located in Bholapur village, and one each in Tajpur village, Bhamian Kalan, and Kulianwal. Despite receiving prior notices, the developers persisted in their unlawful construction activities, prompting GLADA to coordinate a special team comprising police, PSPCL (Punjab State Power Corporation Limited) officials, and the revenue department to carry out the demolitions.

Sagar Setia, the Chief Administrator of GLADA, underscored the necessity of this special drive to penalize those who exploit residents by offering plots in these unauthorized colonies, which lack the essential government approvals and adherence to regulatory norms. He urged potential property buyers to exercise caution, emphasizing that GLADA would not extend amenities such as water supply, sewerage, electricity connections, or street lighting to these areas.

To guide prospective purchasers, Setia advised consulting GLADA's official website, where a list of approved and regulated colonies, complete with their authorized maps, is readily accessible. Additionally, Amarjit Singh Bains, the Additional Chief Administrator of GLADA, revealed that apart from the demolition campaign, the authority had also taken measures to dissuade the registration of plots in these unlawful colonies. Furthermore, PSPCL has been instructed not to provide electricity connections to such unauthorized settlements.
