Dakshina Kannada's upcoming IT Park progresses with RFP announcement

In a significant development for the tech industry in Dakshina Kannada, Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has announced that the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the proposed IT park in Derebail is poised to be unveiled within the next two months. This announcement came during a press conference held in the city on Monday.

The ambitious IT park project, which will be executed under a public-private-partnership (PPP) model, is slated to be established on a sprawling three-acre plot owned by the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (KEONICS). The government has already granted approval for the construction of this tech hub.

One of the key deliberations surrounding the project is the potential extension of the contract period for the park's developer under the PPP model. Minister Rao revealed that the government is currently reviewing the proposal to increase the contract duration from 30 years to 60 years.

Moreover, Minister Rao disclosed that revisions are underway for the zonal regulations of the Mangaluru Master Plan. The draft of these regulations will undergo finalization by the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) after consulting with district in-charge secretary L.K. Atheeq.

Addressing concerns related to the redevelopment of Kadri Park, managed by Mangaluru Smart City Ltd., Minister Rao announced the cancellation of previous bids due to restrictions that hindered broader participation. New bids will be invited to ensure a more inclusive and competitive process.

In a bid to enhance maritime infrastructure, Minister Rao also announced upcoming dredging activities at the Old Port's wharf and the fisheries harbour estuary, scheduled to commence later this month at an estimated cost of ?3.9 crore. Additionally, plans are in motion to construct a jetty for country boats at Ullal Kodi, with a projected cost of ?6.5 crore.

In a move aimed at bolstering the local fishing industry, Minister Rao reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing ?50,000 in subsidies to fishermen looking to upgrade their kerosene-operated engines to petrol or diesel alternatives, thereby promoting more efficient and eco-friendly boat operations.
