Haldirams targets rapid restaurant expansion in South and West India

Haldirams, a renowned name in the realm of healthy home-based snacks, is responding to the growing demand for restaurants in South and West India. Haldiram Foods International is expanding its restaurant business in these regions, capitalizing on the market's appetite for both healthy snacks and quick-service restaurants. With an existing network of 250 outlets across India, the company aims to add approximately 200 more outlets in the next two years. This expansion is part of Haldirams' strategy to increase its presence in the country's restaurant industry.

Currently, Haldiram's operates under various entities, including Haldiram's Food International Pvt Ltd in Nagpur, Haldiram's Snacks Ltd in NCR, and Haldiram's Ethnic Foods Pvt Ltd. The operational units are based in Delhi and Nagpur, with 250 outlets distributed across North, Central, and South India. These outlets can be found in major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Nashik, Bengaluru, Shirdi, Jaipur, Jabalpur, and Indore. The company plans to add another 150-200 outlets in the next two years in Central and South India.

The Indian food industry, both domestically and internationally, holds significant potential. While Western companies have established a strong presence in India, there remains a substantial opportunity for Indian food brands to make a significant impact in India's quick-service restaurant (QSR) business. This has spurred Director Neeraj Agarwal's motivation to expand Haldirams' presence in the Indian QSR market, given the high demand and the current lack of Indian brands catering to it.

In a market where foreign snacking companies hold a dominant 58.3% share, Haldirams, a homegrown packaged food maker, is determined to compete. The savoury snacks market in India was valued at Rs. 4,100 crore in 2021. To achieve this, Haldirams is actively seeking the right partners for QSR expansion, particularly local snacking firms specializing in healthy snacks. Additionally, the company plans to engage in research and development to introduce new products, collaborating with other health food brands to further expand its presence in the snack and restaurant spaces across the country.
