Road construction firm held accountable for fatal pothole incident in Thane, Maharashtra

In a tragic turn of events, a 22-year-old man lost his life due to a perilous pothole in Thane district, Maharashtra. The Thane rural police have taken swift action, lodging an offence against the owner of Jijau Construction Road Build Private Ltd, the company responsible for the road's maintenance.

On the fateful day of August 31, Akash Jadhav was commuting on his two-wheeler from Ambadi to Wada. His journey took a tragic turn when he encountered a pothole, causing him to lose control and fall. The injuries he sustained from the accident were severe, leading to his unfortunate demise on September 3.

The deceased's family, devastated by the loss, lodged a complaint against the construction company. The complaint highlighted the firm's negligence in maintaining the Wada Bhiwandi road, which was riddled with numerous potholes. This oversight not only led to Akash's untimely death but has also been the cause of several other accidents, as stated by an official. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

In a separate incident in Nashik, tragedy struck again when an old house's slab and wall collapsed, claiming the lives of a man and a three-year-old boy. The incident occurred in Nalwadpada village, Dindori taluka, around 11.30 pm. The collapse trapped three family members - Gulab Waman Khare (60), his wife Vithabai, and their grandson Nishant.

Alerted by the loud crash, the couple's son Vishal rushed to the scene and, with the help of neighbours, managed to pull out the trapped family members. Sadly, both Gulab and Nishant succumbed to their injuries, while Vithabai is currently receiving medical treatment for her critical injuries.

Coincidentally, after almost a month's hiatus, rains made a comeback in Nashik district on the same day. Nashik city recorded a significant 62.4 mm of rainfall between 11.30 am and 5.30 pm.

In conclusion, these incidents underscore the pressing need for stringent checks and regular maintenance of infrastructure, especially roads and old buildings, to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens. Negligence in such matters can lead to irreplaceable losses, as witnessed in these tragic events.
