Mangaluru Urban Development Authority updates council on revised master plan

In a recent council meeting held by the Mangaluru City Corporation, officials from the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (Muda) announced that the draft of the revised master plan for the city is on track to be completed within three months. The Muda official disclosed this information, highlighting the progress made by the authority in shaping the city's future urban landscape.

During the meeting, MCC Commissioner Anand CL emphasized the importance of transparency and collaboration. He directed Muda officials to engage with all 60 corporators to ensure that the master plan incorporates diverse perspectives and avoids potential challenges in the future. This move aims to create a comprehensive blueprint that will stand the test of time.

One of the issues raised by corporators was the arduous process that applicants had to go through for single-site approvals from Muda. Responding to these concerns, Mayor Jayanand Anchan urged Muda officials to work closely with MCC officials, emphasizing the need for seamless coordination between the two bodies to streamline procedures and address citizens' grievances.

In addition to urban planning matters, the council meeting addressed pressing concerns related to water scarcity. Areas like Dambel, Baikampady, Panambur, Katipalla, and Krishnapura were flagged as experiencing shortages. Corporator AC Vinayaraj drew attention to the Self Assessment Scheme (SAS), revealing that around 2.1 lakh properties within MCC limits fall under its purview. However, in the fiscal year 2022-23, approximately 70,000 properties had not fulfilled their SAS obligations, raising financial concerns.

The council meeting also held significance as it marked the conclusion of Jayanand Anchan's term as mayor. With mayoral elections scheduled for the next month, this gathering served as a platform to address various civic issues and set the tone for the city's future leadership. As the new master plan takes shape and crucial matters are discussed, the Mangaluru community eagerly anticipates the path the city will take to embrace its evolving identity.
