Lucknow Development Authority unveils exclusive 'Second Innings' apartments for seniors

Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has unveiled plans to construct specialized 'Second Innings' apartments in Gomtinagar's Viraj Khand, catering exclusively to senior citizens wishing for an independent living setup in a safe and state-of-the-art environment.

The revelation was made by LDA's vice-chairman, Indramani Tripathi, in a meeting convened to finalize the utilization of a previously overlooked 35,000 sq mt parcel of land adjacent to a water body in Viraj Khand. The omission came to light during a recent drone survey.

Tripathi delineated the project details, stating that the development would span across a 2,500 sq mt zone. "The planned infrastructure boasts a seven-story edifice, with each level accommodating eight tailored studio apartments. Every unit measures approximately 400 sq ft and is meticulously designed, focusing on the unique requirements of senior citizens. This includes ample space for balconies, dressing rooms, and specially designed bathrooms," Tripathi explained.

Moreover, the community is poised to benefit from an array of amenities that prioritize the well-being and comfort of its residents. Residents can expect a fully equipped clubhouse, gym, a serene yoga and meditation centre, physiotherapy facility, community kitchen, landscaped lawn, and a swimming pool. Emphasizing the importance of immediate medical attention for the elderly, Tripathi also confirmed the availability of an ambulance service within the complex premises.

In a move to ensure the apartments serve their intended demographic, the LDA has decided to lease the flats exclusively to individuals 60 years and older for a predetermined tenure. Notably, these apartments won't be up for outright purchase. However, an interesting provision allows occupants to transfer their lease to another senior citizen, provided certain stipulations are met.

In addition to the housing scheme, Tripathi also shared that the remaining 30,000 sqm land surrounding the apartment complex will be developed into parks and expansive roads, further enhancing the living experience for the community.

In conclusion, the 'second innings' apartment project by the LDA is a testament to the city's commitment to cater to its aging population, ensuring they live their golden years in comfort, security, and dignity. This pioneering initiative is a significant stride in reimagining urban living spaces for senior citizens in Lucknow.
