Malaga, Spain emerges as high-level remote work hub in Savills' Executive Nomad Index

The annual Executive Nomad Index report by real estate consultancy Savills offers insights into the top destinations globally for high-level remote workers, catering specifically to nomadic executives. The list ranks the twenty most appealing cities or regions for remote work, considering factors that enhance their attractiveness to this group. The leading locations include Dubai, Malaga, Miami, Abu Dhabi, Lisbon, Barbados, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Algarve, Saint Lucia, Cayman Islands, Dubrovnik, Malta, Antigua, Côte d'Azur, Mauritius, Athens, Cyprus, Bahamas, and Tuscany.

Malaga's notable surge in international rankings as a coveted destination for remote work owes much of its recognition to Google's investment in the city and its subsequent influence on other major corporations like Vodafone, Citi, and Globant. While the city's reputation has garnered considerable attention, there are substantive reasons behind its appeal to the influx of post-pandemic "digital nomad" executives, as highlighted in the report.

The Executive Nomad Index evaluates each city based on five key criteria: internet connection speed, quality of life, climate, air connectivity, and high-end rental housing costs. Impressively, Malaga secured a total score of 32.38 points, trailing the top-ranked city, Dubai, by a mere two points. Notably, Malaga clinched the highest score in the entire list (10.38) for its exceptional quality of life.

It also achieved commendable scores (8.06) for internet connectivity and the competitiveness of prime rental properties (5.26). While its climate score (4.45) surpasses that of Dubai or Abu Dhabi, it falls slightly short of tropical destinations such as Barbados, Cayman Islands, St. Lucia, or Miami.

Each of the ranked locations, including Malaga, is equipped with a digital nomad visa program or a comparable arrangement, often as part of a larger economic bloc that facilitates the free movement of people for living and working. These destinations offer appealing year-round climates, high standards of living, and established residential markets, according to Savills' insightful analysis.

Malaga's ascent in the Executive Nomad Index reflects not only its growing prominence as a tech hub but also the strategic factors that make it a magnet for remote-working executives seeking a compelling blend of professional opportunities and quality of life. The synergy of corporate presence, lifestyle amenities, and advanced connectivity makes Malaga an appealing choice for the new generation of nomadic professionals.
