In Mumbai, the manager and two cooks of a popular Bandra restaurant were arrested following a customer's complaint about discovering a baby rat in his meal. The incident occurred at Papa Pancho Da Dhaba, a well-known eatery celebrated for its Punjabi cuisine over the past two decades.
After a day of shopping in Bandra, Anurag Singh visited Papa Pancho Da Dhaba for dinner on Sunday. To his dismay, he found a baby rat in the chicken dish he had ordered. Initially, he didn't notice and consumed some of it, mistaking it for chicken. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was a rat. Singh shared that the chicken curry that he ordered seemed to have a piece of meat that looked much lighter in colour. When he picked it out with a spoon, it turned out to be a small rat. Singh's complaint led to an apology from the wait staff, though the manager remained absent for 45 minutes. His health took a toll after consuming part of the curry.
Bandra police confirmed the arrest of hotel manager Vivian Sequeira and two cooks. They face charges under IPC sections 272 (adulteration of food) and 336 (rash or negligent behaviour that endangers a person's life). The three were subsequently released on bail.
Sequeira, the manager, claimed no such incident had occurred in the last 22 years. He alleged that the customers were intoxicated and were caught consuming alcohol by the server. As the restaurant doesn't serve alcohol, the staff objected. Sequeira added that the customers even suggested settling the matter with the manager before involving the police.
The restaurant's lawyer, Advocate Devraj Gore, argued that the customers, under the influence of alcohol, had nearly finished their meal before pointing out the rat. They raised the issue after the staff confronted them about consuming alcohol. Gore criticized their actions, stating they had disrupted the lives of two financially challenged cooks.
In conclusion, a customer's shocking discovery of a baby rat in his meal at a Bandra restaurant has led to the arrest of the manager and two cooks. While the restaurant claims no such incidents have occurred before, the incident has sparked a legal battle between the affected customer and the establishment.
