RLDA concludes New Delhi Railway Station redevelopment pre-bid meeting

The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has successfully concluded an energetic pre-bid meeting for the New Delhi Railway Station's redevelopment. This dynamic event, held both in the virtual and physical realms, drew participation from key industry players, including construction giants like L&T, SPCL, and NCC Ltd. The station's transformation, set to embrace the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model, carries an estimated project cost of Rs 4700 crore. The bidding process will adopt a single-stage, two-packet approach. With a construction timeline of 45 months, e-bids are to be submitted by September 29, 2023, and their technical opening is scheduled for October 5, 2023, at 15:30 Hrs.

The scope of work encompasses a comprehensive array of tasks, spanning civil and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) undertakings for the Station building and its associated infrastructure. This entails dedicated access roads, a Multi-Modal Transit Hub, a Roof Plaza, a Parcel Building, and the development of surrounding circulation spaces, among other aspects. Ved Parkash Dudeja, Vice Chairman of RLDA, expressed delight at the robust participation of national and international firms during the pre-bid meeting. He highlighted the New Delhi Railway Station's redevelopment as a flagship project, poised to elevate it into a world-class transportation hub. The vision embraces seamless connectivity for passengers across rail, metro, bus, and various modes of transport.

This transformation encompasses commercial spaces, multi-modal integration facilities, modern passenger terminals, and amenities catering to all passenger segments. The reimagined station will seamlessly integrate railway functions with commercial domains, showcasing a futuristic design infused with cutting-edge technology and passenger comforts. Its revolutionary 'Infinity' building concept, spanning three spacious floors, promises to redefine concourse experiences. The station's Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) status positions it as a multi-modal hub, uniting diverse transportation modes. To address traffic congestion, a strategic network of seven flyovers and road widening initiatives are in the pipeline.

Amenities will encompass a vibrant food court, inviting waiting lounges, engaging children's areas, and spaces dedicated to showcasing local products. The station environment will prioritize visitor ease through efficient illumination, intuitive signage, and seamless mobility via elevators and escalators. A well-conceived master plan aims for smooth traffic flow and ample parking provisions. Sustainability measures, like adhering to green building standards and harnessing solar energy, will be integral to the station's ethos. Inclusivity is also paramount, with provisions for differently-abled individuals.

Passenger comfort takes centre stage with separate areas for arrivals and departures, uncluttered platforms, and fully covered spaces. Safety measures will be implemented through extensive CCTV coverage and access control systems across the station's expanse. The New Delhi Railway Station's reimagining is set to harmoniously blend architectural innovation, technology integration, sustainability, and passenger-centricity, ushering in a new era of transportation experiences.
