Punjab Chief Minister allocates Rs 101 crore worth cheques for housing scheme beneficiaries

In a significant move towards improving the living conditions of the underprivileged, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann distributed cheques worth Rs 101 crore to 25,000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Each beneficiary received a cheque of Rs 1.75 lakh, emphasizing the state government's commitment to ensuring the welfare of all segments of society.

Addressing a gathered audience, Chief Minister Mann highlighted the government's duty to uplift every stratum of society, particularly the weaker sections. He underscored the vital role of the government in providing basic necessities such as food, clothing, and housing, stating that these are fundamental rights of every citizen.

Mann emphasized that in a welfare-driven state, the funds for these pro-people initiatives are sourced from the taxes paid by the general populace. He contrasted his administration's approach with that of his predecessors, asserting that while they often claimed a lack of resources, his government was resolutely utilizing the state treasury to benefit the public.

The Chief Minister attributed past mismanagement of funds to corruption within leadership and pledged that his administration had taken stern measures to curb such embezzlement. This, he asserted, has enabled the redirection of funds toward the welfare of the masses.

Mann also raised concerns over the high number of fatalities resulting from road accidents in Punjab. In response, he revealed his government's plan to establish a pioneering "Road Safety Force" aimed at improving traffic management and reducing accidents. The Chief Minister disclosed that approximately 14 lives are lost daily due to road accidents in the state, emphasizing the potential impact of the "Road Safety Force" in curbing rash driving and ensuring safer roads.

With the formation of this force, Mann anticipates a significant reduction in road accidents and a more streamlined vehicular movement, reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding the lives of Punjab's residents.
