Gurugram authorities to crack down against builders over potable water misuse

In a recent development, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has instructed its engineering wing to conduct a thorough survey of properties being constructed in zone 3. The directive comes after reports surfaced of developers and property owners utilizing potable water for construction purposes. Naresh Kumar, the Joint Commissioner of zone 3, has urged engineering officials to identify such properties and take appropriate action against the builders involved.

Residents residing in zone 3, particularly in areas like Sushant Lok, have alleged that builders frequently employ potable water for construction, causing inconvenience to the community. Recognizing the severity of the issue, Naresh Kumar emphasized the need to address this concern during a meeting with the engineering department staff recently. He stated that strong action will be taken against builders who are found using potable water for construction in zone 3.

The unauthorized usage of potable water not only creates problems for the residents but also results in revenue loss for the civic body. Local residents claim that builders often employ powerful motors to store larger quantities of water at construction sites, which leads to reduced water pressure and inadequate water supply for the surrounding areas.

Pawan Yadav, the president of Sushant Lok Extension RWA, expressed frustration over the lack of attention given to the problem by the MCG. He lamented to the press, claiming the RWA has repeatedly raised this issue with the MCG, but it has gone unnoticed. According to him, builders in the Sushant Lok area are using portable water for construction while residents are being given restricted water supply only between 6:30 am and 6:30 pm. The MCG staff responsible for issuing fines have been unsuccessful in catching the perpetrators in the act as they visit the areas during working hours when no one is using potable water. Therefore, fines are not issued as no photographic evidence of the crime can eb captured.

The MCG's directive to crack down on the use of potable water for construction activities in zone 3 aims to protect the city's valuable water resources and ensure sustainable construction practices. By promoting the use of recycled water, the MCG hopes to mitigate the inconvenience faced by residents and prevent further loss of revenue caused by this unauthorized practice.
