In a troubling turn of events, residents residing near the under-construction Mahagun Millennia project in Crossings Republik have lodged a police complaint against the developer, expressing serious apprehensions regarding a deep pit on the site. The pit, measuring almost 50 feet in depth, has been dug up for the construction of a mall's basement. The residents fear that the pit, now filled with water due to recent rains, is causing seepage and endangering the foundation of nearby buildings and their boundary walls.
According to residents, the concerns escalated when a portion of the service road of Gaur Global Village Society, which overlooks the pit, collapsed on July 9. Another section of the road gave way on Monday, further intensifying fears. Earlier, on July 6, heavy rainfall resulted in the collapse of a section of the mall's under-construction wall.
Sanjay Jha, a resident of Gaur Global in the township, expressed his worry, stating, "Due to continuous rainfall over the last few days, a portion of the soil below the boundary wall of our society has eroded. Damp patches have also developed on the walls of our society." Another resident added, "It is very scary to see chunks of concrete give away every time it rains. The water in the pit dug for the mall's basement can also affect the foundation of the towers in nearby societies. Who will be responsible in case of a mishap?"
The police complaint, submitted by the residents of Crossing Republik, also accuses the developer of Mahagun Millennia of constructing a mall on a 7,902 square meter plot, situated between two residential societies, Gaur Global and Mahagun Mascot, without the necessary approval from the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA). Currently, no new projects are permitted in the township.
In 2021, Sanjay Singh, a Crossings resident, raised concerns with the principal secretary in Lucknow regarding Crossings Infrastructure Pvt Ltd (CIPL), alleging their failure to provide a detailed project report for all the common facilities in the township since 2006. As a result, a committee was formed to halt any new projects until Crossings Infrastructure submitted the revised detailed project report for the common facilities.
Mahendra Pratap, the Additional Commissioner (Meerut division), who is currently investigating the case against CIPL, revealed that GDA recently submitted a revised project report. However, due to some issues, they have been instructed to resubmit the documents.
Meanwhile, on July 10, the GDA sent a letter to the police requesting the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against the developer of the Mahagun Millennia project and CIPL for engaging in illegal construction activities.
