The widow category requires proof of property ownership, while the disabled category mandates a disability certificate issued by the government authority, along with the ownership certificates. Ex-servicemen, on the other hand, must provide both their ownership certificate and valid identity proof as ex-servicemen.

In cases where the ownership of properties is not entirely registered in the names of the beneficiaries, exemption benefits are calculated based on the percentage of property ownership that is registered in their names. The issue of property tax exemption and the selection of beneficiaries have been recurring topics of discussion in the monthly general house meetings of the MC. Councillors proposed various categories during the deliberations, but after careful consideration, the Chandigarh administration finalized and officially notified the three aforementioned categories—widows, disabled individuals, and ex-servicemen.
