Developer of Platinum Tower in Gurugram fined for illegal construction waste dumping

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has taken a strict stance against the illegal dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste within the city. In a significant move, the MCG imposed a hefty challan of Rs 1.1 crore on the developer of Platinum Tower located in Sector 28. The developer was found guilty of dumping construction waste on the master stormwater drain adjacent to the greenbelt area.

An official from the MCG revealed that an astonishing 12,881 metric tonnes of C&D waste had been generated and illegally dumped in the greenbelt area. To address this issue, the MCG will not only recover over Rs 92 lakh from the developer for the removal and disposal of the debris but also impose a penalty of more than Rs 18 lakh, which accounts for 20% of the assessment amount. This penalty serves as a consequence for the developer's violation of regulations by illegally dumping construction waste. In an effort to combat this problem, both the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and MCG Chief PC Meena have instructed officials to intensify their vigilance against the illegal dumping of C&D waste throughout the city.

A senior MCG official emphasized the detrimental impact of the C&D waste debris on the stormwater drain within the greenbelt area. The improper disposal of such waste obstructs the flow of water, leading to the choking of the drain. Despite clear directives regarding the proper disposal of C&D waste, the developer of Platinum Tower failed to comply with these regulations, resulting in the issuance of the challan by the MCG.

When approached for a comment, the developer of Platinum Tower declined to provide any statement regarding the matter. This refusal indicates the seriousness of the situation and the developer's unwillingness to address their violation of waste disposal protocols.

The recent action taken by the MCG was prompted by the discovery made by the GMDA of a blocked drain, which resulted in waterlogging around the IFFCO Chowk Metro station. In response to this issue, the authority had previously issued a notice to the developer of Platinum Tower, instructing them to remove the C&D waste. Failure to comply with the notice has now led to the imposition of penalties and further actions against the developer.

The MCG's firm stance against illegal dumping of C&D waste serves as a warning to developers and individuals involved in construction activities. The repercussions of disregarding waste disposal regulations are substantial and can have severe consequences for the environment and infrastructure. It is essential for all stakeholders to abide by the prescribed guidelines and contribute to maintaining a clean and sustainable city. The GMDA and MCG's commitment to increasing vigilance in this matter highlights their dedication to addressing environmental concerns and ensuring a better future for Gurugram.
