Airbnb has announced an opportunity to live out your Barbie-inspired fantasies. Starting in mid-July, ahead of the release of the highly-anticipated Barbie movie, enthusiasts of the beloved doll will be able to book a stay at Barbie's Malibu mansion, specifically in Ken's bedroom.
While the beachfront property is attributed to Barbie, Ken, her enduring companion, is slated as the host according to the Airbnb listing. Guests will find unique personal effects, including a grill, pool floaties spelling Ken's name, and a pot of workout supplement humorously dubbed "Beefy body brine."
Ken's message to prospective guests on Airbnb reads: "With so many activities, choosing can be tough. Do you surf before or after grilling? And when do the horses get a visit?"
To inaugurate the property listing, Airbnb will be offering four lucky guests a free stay at the hot-pink mansion on 21st and 22nd July. Upon arrival, guests will be welcomed by a concierge who will conduct a property tour and arrange meals. Additionally, guests will have the chance to try on Ken’s wardrobe and leave with a pair of roller skates and a surfboard.
Bookings for the mansion will open on 17th July, right before the launch of the Barbie movie directed by Greta Gerwig. The movie boasts a star-studded cast that includes Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, and Simu Liu, creating a buzz on the internet ever since the release of images featuring Robbie and Gosling in striking neon outfits and rollerblades.
The film's set, the fictitious town of Barbieland, has reportedly caused an international shortage of pink paint, according to production designer Sarah Greenwood.
The Airbnb listing marks the second occasion the iconic Malibu property has been offered for overnight stays. Back in 2019, the mansion was listed on Airbnb for $60 a night, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Barbie brand. For those seeking a brief Barbie experience, Mattel has set up immersive pop-ups in cities like Santa Monica, Chicago, and New York. These feature themed rooms like Barbie's spaceship, recording studio, and Volkswagen camper van.
