Tamil Nadu CM inaugurates renovated houses in Trichy

Chief Minister M K Stalin, via video-conferencing from Chennai, inaugurated a Periyar memorial Samathuvapuram at Periya Kattukulam near Musiri. The memorial, consisting of 100 refurbished houses and repaired infrastructure, was dedicated to beneficiaries selected from the village in the Kattukulam village panchayat. The ceremony was attended by Trichy Collector M Pradeep Kumar, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Project Director S Devanathan, and several MLAs.

To ensure equitable distribution, DRDA allocated the houses based on reservation norms. Out of the 100 houses, 40 were awarded to individuals from scheduled castes (SCs), while 25 were given to people from the most backward class (MBC) and backward class (BC) each. The remaining 10 houses were allocated to other deserving individuals.

The Periya Kattukulam Samathuvapuram was initially scheduled to be functional in 2010. However, legal issues surrounding its establishment caused a delay in the project, despite the completion of houses and infrastructure. The Samathuvapuram boasts various facilities such as roads, a playground, a park, a ration shop, and an overhead water tank.

With the resolution of the legal matters, the government provided a budget of 112.81 lakh to renovate the entire Samathuvapuram. Spanning across a vast area of 9.47 acres, this new Samathuvapuram marks the eighth of its kind in Trichy.

The district already hosts seven Samathuvapurams in Inamkulathur, Kallakudi, Pannampatti, Ezhoorpatti, Thalambadi, Aarachi, and Kannanur. According to Project Director Devanathan, these existing Samathuvapurams have been functioning smoothly, with all houses occupied.

The inauguration of the Periyar memorial Samathuvapuram signifies the government's commitment to promoting inclusivity and providing improved housing and infrastructure for marginalized communities. It is a step towards realizing Periyar's vision of social equality and unity.

The event received widespread praise from the local community, who expressed gratitude to the government for their efforts in resolving the legal issues and completing the long-awaited Samathuvapuram project. The beneficiaries of the houses expressed joy and relief, as they now have access to decent housing and essential amenities.
