PMAY funds reach 110 Jaipur recipients; mayor advocates for women empowerment

Earlier this week, a momentous event was witnessed in Jaipur as the JMC-Greater administration disbursed the first installment of Rs 30,000 to 110 recipients under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY-Urban) for new housing construction.

Somya Gurjar, the mayor of JMC-Greater, imparted a powerful message on the occasion, emphasizing gender equality. Gurjar encouraged all beneficiaries to name their new homes after their daughters, underpinning the critical role women play in societal progress.

This move is part of a larger effort to improve living conditions and promote inclusive development. The PMAY initiative targets providing affordable housing to the urban poor. As of now, the scheme has identified 132 beneficiaries within the JMC-Greater region.

Following the completion of all necessary formalities, the JMC-Greater administration plans to distribute the initial instalment to the remaining 22 recipients. This systematic approach ensures that the aid reaches those in dire need, making a significant difference in their lives.

However, this meeting did not only revolve around the PMAY disbursement. Plans for an upcoming general body gathering, scheduled for Tuesday, were also discussed. This meeting will be the first after a hiatus of a month, primarily due to a skirmish and chanting among councilors that disrupted the previous meeting on May 25.

The forthcoming meeting aims to address the previously stalled proposals. Deputy Mayor Puneet Karnawat has submitted a request to Mayor Gurjar to add 16 additional points to the meeting's agenda. These topics range from infrastructure maintenance, such as drain cleaning and road renaming, to more bureaucratic matters, including waste collection improvement and resolving pending payments for old projects.

In conclusion, the PMAY disbursement in Jaipur is an uplifting step towards improving living conditions for the urban poor, while simultaneously highlighting women's integral role in societal development. The JMC-Greater administration is committed to addressing the challenges faced by its constituents and enhancing the city's quality of life, as evidenced by the upcoming general body meeting's ambitious agenda.
