Rising Star Suhana Khan acquires prestigious property in Alibaug worth INR 12.91 crore

Suhana Khan, the emerging film actress and daughter of Bollywood's superstar Shah Rukh Khan, has reportedly secured a real estate deal of INR 12.91 crore in the tranquil village of Thal, Alibaug. The property was previously in possession of the renowned film dynasty descending from the iconic actor, Durga Khote.

Inching towards her maiden film, Khan has bought a 1.5-acre property comprising three quaint cottages, nestled adjacent to her father's existing estate. According to the digital property database IndexTap(dot)com, this purchase was formalized on June 1 with a stamp duty payment of INR 77.46 lakh.

Alibaug has been gaining attention as an idyllic retreat with the added advantage of improved accessibility to Mumbai's hustle and bustle, thereby providing a breath of fresh air away from the city's concrete jungle.

Despite the charming traditional cottages that Khan has invested in, the tranquil scenery of Alibaug is grappling with growing signs of haphazard development. The peaceful atmosphere of swaying palms and unspoiled beaches is gradually succumbing to an unorganized sprawl of construction with minimal infrastructure to support it.

The unsustainable development has led to pressing issues like a water shortage, witnessed by locals as groundwater tables dip across the region. Rahul Goregaonkar, a native with ancestral property in Dhokavade village, describes the alarming scenario of the escalating water crisis, with residents resorting to buying water from tankers since April.

The quaint hamlets once characterized by sporadic bungalows are now being transformed with low and high-rise structures mushrooming due to the recent development plan guidelines. This wave of urbanization, though welcomed by some, raises concerns about the need for more sustainable planning addressing water availability, garbage disposal, and proper drainage facilities. Naheed Carrimjee, an Alibaug homeowner who initiated a recycling drive a few years ago, highlights the importance of these amenities in maintaining the region's sustainability.

Suhana Khan joins a growing list of Mumbai-based celebrities, including Juhi Chawla, Deepika Padukone, Ranvir Singh, and Anushka Sharma, investing in Alibaug's real estate. Thal village, now host to the Khan's property, is notably featured in acclaimed author Anita Desai's popular novel 'Village by the Sea'.

In conclusion, the recent purchase by Suhana Khan illuminates the charm of Alibaug as a serene getaway. However, the burgeoning unregulated construction brings the pressing need for sustainable planning to the fore. It is essential for developers and investors to align growth aspirations with responsible environmental stewardship, ensuring Alibaug retains its rustic charm and ecological balance in the face of rampant development.
