In a significant development, the Union Government has given its preliminary approval for the establishment of two new townships in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. These townships, once completed, will contribute to the state's economic growth and provide numerous employment opportunities for local residents. The first project is an industrial township located in the Parag Farm area of Udham Singh Nagar. This ambitious endeavor aims to transform Parag Farm into a major industrial hub, attracting an estimated investment of Rs 10,000 crore. This substantial investment is expected to generate employment for thousands of local residents and boost the overall economic development of the region.
The second sanctioned project is an integrated township in Doiwala, situated on the outskirts of Dehradun. Doiwala's proximity to the airport and its convenient location make it an ideal site for an integrated aero township. The integrated township concept aims to create a self-contained community with residential, commercial, and recreational facilities, providing a high quality of life for its residents.
To facilitate the development of these townships, the state government had previously submitted a proposal worth Rs 1100 crore to the Central government. The proposal sought support for the establishment of the two townships, one in Kumaon and the other in Garhwal. The approval from the Union government marks a significant step forward in realizing these ambitious projects.
While the projects are still in their early stages, a delegation from the Centre is expected to conduct an on-site assessment of both locations in the near future. This assessment will help determine the feasibility and potential challenges of implementing the townships. Once the assessment is complete, further progress will be made in the development of these projects.
In addition to the two approved townships, the state government has proposed the establishment of six more townships across Uttarakhand. These include a film city near Naini Saini airport in Pithoragarh, a Doon twin city on the site of the Arcadia tea garden in Dehradun, a cyber city in the Sahaspur area of Dehradun, a wellness township in Gauchar, a Haldwani twin city near Gaulapar, and a tourism township in Kamnagar. The government aims to leverage the natural resources, infrastructure, and strategic locations of these areas to drive economic growth and development.
Out of the initially identified 20 locations for potential townships, 10 have been shortlisted for further consideration. The plans and concepts for eight projects have already been finalized, while experts are working on the remaining two projects.
The establishment of these new townships holds great promise for Uttarakhand, as it aims to stimulate economic growth, attract investments, and create employment opportunities. These projects will not only enhance the state's infrastructure but also contribute to the overall development and prosperity of the region. As the Central team conducts its on-site assessment, Uttarakhand eagerly awaits the realization of these transformative townships.
