Cabinet approves metro between HUDA City Centre and Cyber City in Gurugram

The Union Cabinet in New Delhi has given its approval for the metro rail connectivity project, connecting HUDA City Centre station to Cyber City in Gurugram. The objective is to enhance public transportation in the national capital region. The project will be carried out by the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC), established as a 50:50 joint venture between the central government and the Haryana government. Once the sanction order is issued, the project will commence.

The new metro line will span 28.50 kilometers and consist of 27 stations. The metro trains on this line will have a design speed of 80 km per hour and an average speed of 34 kmph. The entire project will be elevated and is expected to be completed within four years.

This metro line will connect New Gurugram with the older parts of the city and contribute to overall economic development in the area, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Additionally, it will later provide connectivity to the IGI Airport in the next phase.

The statement released by the ministry stated, "The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved metro connectivity from HUDA City Centre to Cyber City with a branch line to Dwarka Expressway, Gurugram. This will cover a distance of 28.50 km with 27 stations on the route." The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 5,452 crore. The metro connectivity will feature a standard gauge line of 1,435 mm (5ft and 8.5 inches) and include a spur line from Basai village for depot connectivity.

The metro connectivity will commence from the existing HUDA City Centre on the Delhi Metro's Yellow Line. The new stations will include Sector 45, Cyber Park, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 72A, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phase 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai Village, Sector 9, Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Udyog Vihar Phase 5, and Cyber City.

According to the ministry, Gurugram's population is approximately 25 lakh, and it is projected that the daily ridership on the new line will reach 5.34 lakh by 2026, 7.26 lakh by 2031, 8.81 lakh by 2041, and 10.70 lakh by 2051. The ministry's statement also mentioned that the project's financing is being arranged through the European Investment Board and the World Bank.
