Ludhiana introduces QR code based UID system for efficient property mapping

The implementation of a smart QR code-based unique identity number (UID) system in Ludhiana is set to begin as a private firm, entrusted with the task, has commenced the mapping process for various blocks in the city. The recent rapid and haphazard growth of the city has rendered the previous mapping, conducted nearly a decade ago, outdated and in need of an upgrade. Officials have estimated that it will take at least one week to initiate the installation process and ensure the city is equipped with the new UID plates.

Survey teams have already arrived in the city and have started studying the existing maps. In addition, a mobile application is being developed to enable officials to monitor the entire process of mapping and installation of the UID plates. One of the major challenges encountered during the mapping work is aligning the properties with the records of the municipal corporation (MC).

In the ongoing mapping process in block 29, it was discovered that numerous new properties had emerged, replacing those that were previously numbered by the MC. Furthermore, several vacant plots have now been developed with buildings, resulting in the division of single properties into multiple units.

To ensure accurate and reliable mapping of properties and assignment of UID numbers, officials emphasize the need for caution and attention to detail. The private firm responsible for the project will carefully assess the on-ground situation and cross-reference it with the city maps before proceeding with the installation process. At present, the mapping work is underway in two blocks, namely 29 and 31, with a total of 37 blocks scheduled to be covered.

According to the records of the municipal corporation, there are approximately 4.25 lakh properties in Ludhiana. However, officials anticipate that the number has increased to around 5 lakhs due to the city's growth. Although the contractor has been given a year to complete the project for all properties in the city, they have set a target of six months to ensure prompt and efficient completion of the project.
