Madhya Pradesh's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has taken a bold step by declaring the regularization of all unsanctioned settlements built up to December 31, 2022. This decision, heralded as a significant step before the upcoming Assembly elections, was announced by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during an event at his official residence recently.
The regularization decision means that residents of these colonies will not bear any developmental costs, and their homes will be recognized as they currently stand, without additional requirements for change or improvements. The move encompasses all such colonies established up until the end of 2022. Additionally, Chouhan has affirmed that resources will be provided for the growth and betterment of these colonies. This includes the provision of essential utilities such as electricity and water supply. However, the Chief Minister issued a stern warning to officials, making it clear that accountability for any illegal colonies developed post-December 2022 would lie with them.
Subsequent to regularization, these colonies' residents will gain eligibility for bank loans and can potentially receive allocations from the MP/MLA Local Area Development funds. Chouhan urged residents to establish welfare associations for the proper growth of their colonies, with a special emphasis on maintaining cleanliness.
Urban Administration and Development Minister Bhupendra Singh noted that the regularization process had already started for 6,077 colonies established before December 31, 2016. The extension of the deadline to December 31, 2022, was suggested to incorporate an additional 2,500 colonies, providing broader benefits.
Principal Secretary of the Urban Administration Department, Neeraj Mandloi, confirmed that building permissions for 1,122 such colonies would be issued from Tuesday onwards. Five hundred letters notifying beneficiaries across the state were already in distribution. The entire regularization process is projected to conclude by June 30, 2023.
In a final directive, Chouhan mandated that the economically disadvantaged in cities be provided with meals at Rs 5 per person under the Deendayal Rasoi Yojana. Notable attendees of the announcement included Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat, Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang, and Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai, among others.
In conclusion, this decision by the Madhya Pradesh government signifies a massive shift towards acknowledging and improving the living conditions in unsanctioned colonies. However, the efficacy of this initiative will become apparent only when it is implemented fully and equitably, ensuring the improved well-being of the state's residents.
