The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) set a historic precedent by conducting its maiden certification exam for real estate agents, witnessing a robust participation of 423 brokers from across the state. This regulatory step was taken as part of a state-wide professionalisation move to ensure all 39,000 MahaRERA registered agents, as well as those currently unregistered, receive the requisite certification by September 1 to continue their trade.
This initiative by MahaRERA came in the wake of a directive issued earlier this year, on January 10, mandating professional training and certification for real estate agents. The certification examination, an outcome of this directive, is aimed at fostering a comprehensive understanding of MahaRERA rules and regulations among real estate agents.
Out of 457 agents who underwent the MahaRERA offered training, 423 brokers sat for the inaugural certification exam. "The first round of examinations, following the training, saw a substantial turnout with 92% attendance," an official shared with The Times of India, promising another round of exams for the remaining trained agents in the near future.
The certification process has been strategized to roll out in phases. Real estate agents are urged to sign up for it, as only certified individuals will be allowed to operate as property agents from September 1 onwards, the authority stressed. This pivotal certification exam conducted on May 20 is a leap towards a comprehensive structural transformation for real estate agents in the state.
