Over 26,000 landless families granted plots through PMAY in Nashik

In a significant development, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) has provided land for construction of houses to a staggering number of landless families in Nashik. A senior officer from the divisional Commissionerate of Nashik revealed that a total of 26,236 families have been granted plots under the PMAY initiative.

The overwhelming response to the scheme was evident from the fact that there were a staggering 32,798 applications from landless individuals seeking land for the construction of their own homes. The divisional Commissionerate of Nashik, along with the respective district administrations, has been diligently working to process these applications. Currently, approximately 80% of the proposals have been cleared, bringing relief to numerous families. The remaining 6,562 applications are expected to be cleared in the near future, ensuring that more families can fulfil their dream of having a place to call their own.

Among the districts, Jalgaon emerged with the highest demand for land, as 23,207 people applied for housing plots. Out of these applications, 19,936 have already been approved, highlighting the success of the PMAY initiative in meeting the aspirations of landless families. Meanwhile, Dhule district received a modest number of 18 applications, all of which have been promptly provided with land.

Nashik district also witnessed a positive response, with 1,454 out of 1,804 applications being granted land for construction purposes. Similarly, in Ahmednagar, 4,828 out of 7,769 families received plots, providing them with a ray of hope for a brighter future.

The divisional Commissionerate official emphasized that the distribution of land to landless families is a vital aspect of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The scheme has witnessed an overwhelming response, with a total of 4 lakh applications for housing construction funds. As of now, 3 lakh applications have been approved, and efforts are underway to process the remaining applications before the 2024 deadline.

Building upon the success of the PMAY initiative, the state government has also launched the Maha Awas Yojana, which aims to provide affordable housing solutions to the citizens. This initiative seeks to address the housing needs of individuals and families across Maharashtra.

Out of the 1.10 lakh applications received for housing under the Maha Awas Yojana, a commendable number of 85,750 have already been completed. Authorities have directed officials involved in the implementation of the scheme to ensure timely completion of all projects, prioritizing the housing requirements of the people.

The allocation of land to landless families through the PMAY initiative in Nashik signifies a significant step towards addressing the pressing issue of homelessness.
