Union Housing Minister Kaushal Kishore commended the Andhra Pradesh government for its impressive initiative of allocating residential plots to approximately three million indigent families. The commendation came during Kishore's review of the progress on the central government's housing schemes in Vijayawada last week.
Kishore, alongside Andhra Pradesh's State Housing Minister Jogi Ramesh and other high-ranking officials, held a comprehensive review of the housing schemes' status, including the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY). His appreciation was buoyed by the state's robust implementation of the PMAY program.
Kishore emphasized the Central Government's dedication towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of ensuring that every economically challenged and homeless citizen owns a solid, permanent dwelling by 2024. "The Centre has generously provided PMAY houses to Andhra Pradesh. I urge the officials to prioritize the completion of these residential units," he urged.
The Union Minister used a video-conference with district project managers to communicate the importance of swift construction. He insisted that officials focus on infrastructure development in the soon-to-be populated housing colonies.
State Housing Minister Jogi Ramesh expressed gratitude for the Centre's support and sought additional funds for infrastructure development in the housing colonies. Ramesh boasted that Andhra Pradesh is the only state in India that has allocated about three million houses to the poor.
The state government is reportedly investing nearly Rs 30,000 crore for infrastructure development in the YSR Jagananna housing colonies, he revealed.
Andhra Pradesh Housing Board's managing director Lakshmi Shah, chief engineer GV Prasad, and Navarathnalu Implementation Committee vice-chairman Ankamreddy Narayana Murthy were also present during this session. Special chief secretary Ajay Jain highlighted their initiative of providing housing beneficiaries with steel, cement, and other essential construction equipment at subsidized rates, and sand free of charge.
In conclusion, the Andhra Pradesh government's extraordinary commitment towards poverty alleviation through housing provision has received a pat on the back from the Union Housing Minister. The progress made under the PMAY scheme is a step forward in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of universal housing by 2024. Continuous support and collaboration between the state and the central government will be crucial in ensuring that this vision becomes a reality for many more underprivileged citizens.
