Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to kick off a significant housing initiative this Friday, marking the inauguration of more than 42,000 houses in Gujarat. Constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) at an expenditure of 1,946 crore, these houses represent a considerable stride in the government's mission to provide affordable housing to all.
The inauguration ceremony, christened 'Amrut Awas Utsav', will take place at the iconic Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, with a multitude of dignitaries set to attend. Notably, Gujarat's Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, and Raghavji Patel, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Housing, are expected to join the Prime Minister at this pivotal event.
As part of the proceedings, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate 7,113 urban houses and lay the cornerstone for an additional 4,331 homes, as indicated in a government circular. Furthermore, he will partake in the 'Griha Pravesh' (housewarming ceremony) for a staggering 18,997 residences under the PMAY initiative. As an extension of this effort, 12,000 houses built under PMAY's rural segment in 3,740 villages across 232 talukas will also be unveiled.
Adding a personal touch to the event, Prime Minister Modi plans to present house keys to seven beneficiaries personally. Beyond this, he's also scheduled to engage with other beneficiaries via a virtual interface, a nod to the realities of the digital age.
A substantial audience is expected at the 'Amrut Awas Utsav', with around 7,000 beneficiaries projected to attend in person. Of these, 4,000 hail from urban locales while the remaining 3,000 come from rural regions. Simultaneously, beneficiaries dispersed across Gujarat's vast expanse will connect to the ceremony virtually, making this a truly state-wide event. A short film showcasing the achievements and impact of the PMAY initiative, both in its urban and rural avatars, will be screened, highlighting the government's ongoing efforts in housing reform.
The state of Gujarat has been a strong performer in the PMAY initiative, having already facilitated the construction of approximately 1.156 million houses. These include 7.5 lakh homes in urban areas and over 4.06 lakh dwellings in rural regions, as per the official statement.
In conclusion, the inauguration ceremony represents a significant step in the nationwide quest for affordable housing. The dedication of 42,000 new homes under PMAY not only reiterates the central government's commitment to this cause but also serves as a model for other states to emulate in their efforts to ensure housing for all. Prime Minister Modi's participation in this momentous event underscores the national priority placed on the issue of housing, reinforcing his government's dedication to socio-economic development.
