Maharashtra Revenue Minister reduces freehold charges to 2%

At the request of MLC Pravin Datke, a meeting was held last week wherein the current revenue minister Radhakrisha Vikhe-Patil agreed to reduce the Nazul Lands’ freehold charges from 5percent to 2percent of the ready reckoner value. He also agreed to reduce the existing charges to be paid after renewal of lease. Officials have been directed to prepare detailed policies regarding the same for review. Dakte has earlier raised the same issue with the legislative council during on the ongoing winter session which resulted in the revenue minister agreeing to hold a meeting to discuss the same. Other significant decisions taken during the meeting include the reduction of penal charges levied and further clarification on premium lease holder charges.

Nazul Land refers to a type of Government land that is used for non-agricultural purpose such as buildings, roads, markets, playgrounds, or any other public purpose. It could also be used to describe land which has potential for such use in future including lands granted on long- or short-term lease or on no compensation agreements.
