Dedicated locality research platform

MahaRERA proposes portal dedicated to construction approvals

Earlier this week the MahaRERA authorities announced their intention to approach the Urban Development Department (UDD) with a recommendation to create a dedicated portal for construction approvals. They believe doing so will aid the department in reducing the number of frauds as well as help potential home buyers become aware of the status of the buildings they wish to invest into.

At present there is no website, other than the MahaRERA website, that displays the construction approvals. A commencement certificate is a mandatory document required to apply for the RERA registration number. The approvals uploaded on the MahaRERA website, under the project RERA number, are directly uploaded by representatives of the builder. Citizens can only view sanctioned plans of projects on the official website of the respective municipal corporation or council under the citizens search menu.

While most associates and development bodies are backing the idea by calling it a game changer, few remain sceptical. When speaking to TOI, a representative of the Maharashtra State Housing Federations shared his views, stating the need to perhaps create a single window system rather than multiple dedicated portals, to bring all official documents under one roof for easy accessibility.
